Follifoot Park Young Equestrians is for all our teenage riders (aged 13 to 20 years). If you ride with us and are in this age group you can be part of our Young Equestrians team!
Riding, for teenagers, is just the beginning when it comes to equestrian life. Volunteering opportunities for our Young Equestrians are a great way of learning many skills that round out your experience with horses.
These skills include:
tacking up
feeding and general care
clipping
travelling with horses and ponies
non-riding exercise such as lunging
We also run a number of competitions for our teenage riders in the Young Equestrians. You may enjoy entering!

Follifoot Park Riding Centre proudly takes part in the Young Equestrian Leaders Award (YELA) scheme. It’s a brilliant opportunity for young people who are passionate about horses and want to develop their leadership skills. Through YELA, young riders at Follifoot Park can gain valuable experience by volunteering, helping with lessons, and supporting the day-to-day running of the stables. It’s not just about mucking out and tacking up, though. There’s learning to lead, teaching others, and making a big contribution to the equestrian community.
YELA is a nationally recognized award run in conjunction with the British Equestrian Federation (BEF). Participants work their way through Bronze, Silver, and Gold levels, each requiring more commitment and responsibility. Follifoot Park encourages young riders to get stuck in and then we support them every step of the way. It’s a fantastic way to grow, both in and out of the saddle!
Have you filled out your YELA form yet? Bring your log books to start getting signed off!
