The Stouse is a building created to provide a unique and accessible space for riders of all abilities. We’re delighted to be able to provide this facility for our disabled riders, and bring the many benefits of riding to them safely and with ease.
The name is a portmanteau of the words ‘Stan’s House’. Stan is the first of our three mechanical horse simulators. He was purchased by the Follifoot Park Disabled Riders Group. Originally Stan was housed in a temporary outbuilding at Follifoot Park, but needed a proper ‘stable’ of his very own!
Opened on Saturday, 29th May 2010 by MP for Harrogate and Knaresborough Andrew Jones, The Stouse was built by the Pedley family from Yorkshire stone to harmonise with the existing buildings.
The interior is just as thoughtfully designed, with inclusivity foremost. One of its key features is an electrical hoist. This is an essential aid, enabling disabled riders to safely mount and dismount. The Pedley family are dedicated to making sure everyone can experience the joy of riding. The Stouse is a big part of that!
Stan is now based in the Lecture Room, and the Stouse is home to Storm and Racing Ron, our two other mechanical horse simulators. You can find out more about Storm, Stan, and Racing Ron here. All of them are available to hire! With modern facilities and stunning countryside views, The Stouse is the ideal place to combine riding with community events.
